Getting Started using CD Trustee |
|
If you have not already done so, you download CD Trustee by clicking on the Download link. This displays the Download web page. Then click the link on that page that says that says "Download CD Trustee (6.4 MB)". This can take a while if you are using a slow phone modem. After that, proceed like you would when you download any file. You should see a standard "download file" dialog box, and you should select the option to save the file to disk. You should then see a standard "Save As" dialog box, and you will need to indicate where on your hard disk you want to save the SetupCDT.exe file. Make sure you note the folder where you save the file, because after the download is complete, you will need to navigate to that folder on your hard drive and double-click on the SetupCDT.exe file. This will start the installation process. Just follow the instructions displayed on the screen from that point on. After installing the program, start it up by clicking on the Windows Shortcut icon that is installed on your desktop. On the first "Welcome to CD Trustee" screen, you will then see a button that says "Enter Registration Code". Press this button, and you are then asked to enter your code, along with your name. This is a unique code, assigned only to you. Once you enter this code, the 30-album limitation will be removed. You can then press the button in CD Trustee that says "Add CDs automatically", then press the button that says "Start inserting CDs for lookup". You then insert several CDs to be looked up on the Internet. After inserting a few, you press the button on that screen that says "Look up CDs on the Internet". This will go out to the CDDB database and find information about those CDs, and save this information to your own local CD Trustee database. You may need to first connect your computer to the Internet before you do this. The first time you access the CDDB Internet database, the Gracenote/CDDB registration wizard appears. You must complete the registration process that is presented in this wizard in order to access the CDDB Internet database. This only happens the first time you access the database. Make sure you are connected to the Internet during this process. If this wizard does not appear or if you have some other problem accessing the CDDB database, you should try downloading and installing the latest version of the CDDB files. Go to the following web site address to download the latest version of the CDDB files: http://www.gracenote.com/developer/update/ The download is about 500 KB in size. Before you install these files, make sure you have ended any other programs that may be using these files, including CD Trustee. The files cannot be installed if any program is open that uses those files. Make sure you read all the help provided in the CD Trustee program. Start by clicking the Help menu and choose "Using CD Trustee". Look at all the menu options in each menu. Whenever you go to a screen that has a help button (with a yellow question mark) click on that and read the help text displayed. Carefully read all the text displayed on each screen. Please read all the questions and answers on the FAQ page.
